Behind the Scenes at Sewing Street: My Latest Appearance with the Harmony Duo Bag!

February is here, and I wanted to share a little behind-the-scenes peek at my latest Sewing Street appearance because there’s a lot that happens before I go live on air at 9 AM!

Almost Daylight

Show day is a very early start for me. The alarm goes off at 3 AM, and after a quick shower and a cup of coffee, we’re on the road, heading to the Sewing Street studio. It’s always a mix of excitement, nerves and anticipation on Sewing Street days.

I run through my demo so that I haven’t forgotten anything (though I always do a last-minute bag and van check just in case!). Whilst en route I’ll recite my demo to Andrew, my chauffeur for the day!

Final check we are standing in the right place and time for a cuppa!

By the time we arrive just before 7 am, it’s straight into the studio for a run-through (and hopefully another cuppa). This is where we set up the sewing areas, go through the demo timing (the order of things) and make sure everything is in place for a smooth live show. It’s a bit of a whirlwind, but the Sewing Street team are amazing and make everything feel effortless.

Before going live, there’s a moment to catch my breath and head to the dressing room to do the last-minute checks on hair and make-up. It’s a nice little pause before the action begins, one last check in the mirror, a deep breath, my mike switched on and then......

Lights, Camera, Action!

Big grins and the fun begins.

We’re Live!

I was so excited to bring the Harmony Duo Bag to Sewing Street this month. It’s such a versatile design, perfect for those who love options in their bag-making. Whether you want a shoulder bag or a multi-purpose clutch, this pattern gives you both, and I loved showing how different fabrics and details can completely change the look.(Link to pattern)

And Again

That’s Show One in ‘the can’ a short 50 minute break before I start all over again with Show Two! I am so lucky to be able to demonstrate other brilliant designer’s projects and today it was the Starry Step Multi Quilt, using the timeless fabrics of William Morris.

Over the last several years I've also had the chance to work alongside a number of fellow presenters. It's so much fun. Here are just a few of those key moments captured on film.

Now For Food!

Before you know it, I’m packing up, saying my ‘goodbyes’ to Jon the presenter and the production team and loading the van ready for our journey back home to Wales. Occasionally we’ll stop off at a place of interest, like a National Trust location for lunch ( a spot of inspiration for future designs), a stretch of the legs before we arrive home, un-pack and fall into bed!

What a Great Day

I always enjoy the Sewing Street experience, it feels like chatting with friends about what I love most: sewing! The best part? Hearing from you, whether it’s messages during the show, seeing your creations afterward, or just knowing that my patterns are inspiring you to get creative.

A Huge Thank You!

I can’t thank you all enough for tuning in, sending lovely messages, and supporting my patterns. It truly means the world! If you made the Harmony Duo Bag, I’d love to see it, please do share your makes with me over on Facebook or Instagram - we feed through to our homepage too (you can click on the icons below and it will take you directly there).

Join Me on Sewing Street

I’ll be back soon with more exciting projects, but in the meantime, what would you love to see next on Sewing Street? Drop me a message, I’d love to hear your ideas! We post all our comng shows on our dedicated Sewing Street page and we also share our archives. Enjoy.

NB A quick note about the images used in this blog—due to the fast-paced nature of the show and our limited space, it's often tricky to capture specific moments as they happen. To give you a flavour of the event, we've used a mix of stock images from various occasions, as well as some snapshots taken directly from recordings. Apologies if some aren’t the highest quality, but we hope they still capture the essence of the experience!
